One of America’s Cleaner, Most Efficient Energy Sources
There’s a lot of discussion these days about the role of home energy sources in climate change. Government officials, climate advocates and private businesses want to move away from fuels that emit greenhouse gases.
At Q-Dog, we want to slow the harmful effects of climate change too, and that is why we are proud to deliver propane to homes across Calvert, Charles, St. Mary’s, Southern Anne Arundel and Southern Prince George’s counties. While propane might not always be mentioned as a green energy source, it absolutely is.
Propane is an integral part of any balanced, effective carbon reduction strategy. Here are just a few reasons why:
Propane is incredibly efficient and clean
Propane-powered homes have smaller carbon footprints in large part because propane is 90% efficient. That means that when your furnace or boiler burns propane, very little heat energy escapes through your chimney into the atmosphere.
The emissions that do escape when propane burns are much cleaner than with other energy sources. Propane contains virtually no particulate matter (a known carcinogen) and releases significantly less carbon dioxide. It emits 50 percent less nitrogen oxide and 82 percent less sulfur oxide – contributors to acid rain and respiratory illnesses – than electric furnaces.
In fact, propane has been classified as an alternative fuel in both the 1990 Clean Air Act and the 1992 National Energy Policy.
Propane is affordable
Also, residential heating and home appliances work more efficiently with propane than electricity. The average propane-fired furnace keeps a U.S. home 20°F warmer than an electric heat pump. In addition, propane water heaters generally cost 30% less to operate than electric ones, and those savings increase to 60% less for tankless propane water heaters.
In short, your propane equipment doesn’t need as much fuel to run effectively, saving you cash!
Propane is reliable and non-toxic
Powering your home with propane means that you have total control over your heat, hot water and gas-fired appliances. You don’t need to rely on aging utility lines or an electric grid that’s prone to blackouts.
You can enjoy peace of mind, too, knowing that your family and property are safe with a propane tank. Propane does not spill, pool, or leave a residue, which makes it harmless to soil or water in the event of a tank leak.
Propane is a practical, eco-friendly way to heat your home and power your appliances. We would love to be your family’s energy partner. If you’re looking for a reliable, locally-owned home heating company, join our family of customers today!
